Wolf Point Produces Strong Showing At Divisional Track Meet


Wolf Point’s boys’ track team finished in fourth place and was extremely close to a third-place trophy at the Northern B divisional track meet in Great Falls on Saturday, May 20.
The Wolves accounted for 67 points at the meet while third-place Conrad scored 67.33 points. The top two teams were Glasgow with 127.33 points and Shelby with 71 points.
Four first-place performances highlighted Wolf Point’s day at the divisional meet.
In the girls’ division, Katelyn MacDonald came through with a personal best of 122-6 to earn first-place honors in the javelin. The distance is a new school record for Wolf Point. The old record was 120-7 by Amanda Sansaver in 2012.
MacDonald’s previous best was 118-9 during the Top 10 meet in Glasgow this season.
“I’ve been really pushing for the school record,” the senior said. “Reach for the sky is what I always say.”
Before her record-breaking throw, MacDonald was sitting in first place at about 1150 at the divisional meet.
“It definitely caught me by surprise. I was always hanging around 118-0,” MacDonald said. “I was very happy, like shaking happy.”
MacDonald ranks third in Class B for the javelin throw heading into the state meet.
“This week, it’s all about getting on the podium, hopefully in the top three,” she said.
In the boys’ division, Peyton Summers finished first in both the 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run. The junior’s times were 4:40.78 in the 1600 and 9:54.69 in the 3200.
Summers enters the state meet ranked third in the state in both the 1600 and 3200.
Wolf Point’s boys’ 400-meter relay earned first place with a time of 44.95 seconds. The relay consisted of Kraven Silk, Preston Swenson, Maddox Reum and Juliun Benson.
Benson had a strong day for the Wolves as the senior earned second place in the 100 (11.47), second in the 400 (52.21) and third in the 200 (23.44).
Summers placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:05.41.
The 1600-meter relay team of Swenson, Summers, Benson and Reum finished in fourth place with a time of 3:42.68.
Vaun Jensen earned fourth place in the long jump with a mark of 18-7, Silk qualified for state in the 200 with a time of 24.28 seconds for sixth place.
Wolf Point’s girls finished with 18 points. Topping the standings were Glasgow with 130.5, Conrad with 100 and Malta with 85 points.
MacDonald added a fourthplace medal in the shot put with a mark of 33-1.
Kashlyn Speak Thunder, a freshman, placed sixth in the long jump at 14-6 and sixth in the triple jump at 30-9.
Kylile Rodenberg ran the 100-meter hurdles in 18.34 seconds for sixth place.
The girls’ 400-meter relay team featuring Rodenberg, Speak Thunder, Navella Weeks and MacDonald finished sixth with a time of 54.18 seconds.
The Class B state meet is scheduled for Friday, May 26, and Saturday, May 27, in Butte.
