Poplar’s girls’ track team scored 22 points to kick off its season in solid fashion at the Wibaux Invitational held in Glendive on Friday, April 7.
The 3200-meter run was a strong event for the Indians as Jazmyn CarryWater finished fourth with a time of 13:35.21 and Reinita Irizarry took fifth at 13:36.14.
Bailey Dupree, a sophomore, finished with a time of 51.33 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles for fifth place.
Blake Follette was seventh in the 1600 at 6:11.89 and 11th in the 800 at 2:42.48.
Leading Poplar’s girls in weight events were Rebecca Gorder by taking 11th in the shot put and Kessee Erickson by taking 14th in the discus.
The 1600-meter relay team featuring CarryWater, Dupree, Irizarry and Follette finished 10th with a time of 4:54.76.
Highlights for Poplar’s boys included Navarjo Escarcega taking ninth in the 3200. Trentin Youpee was 20th in the triple jump.
The boys’ 1600-meter relay team consisting of Wilder Bearcub, Marquis Brown, Escarcega and Raylando Red Eagle finished in 14th place.
