Karge Begins Duties As Interim Superintendent

As students return to classes in Wolf Point after the holiday break, veteran educator Eileen Karge is starting her duties as interim superintendent for the school district.

“The reason I’m doing this is they needed someone that knows how to do the job,” Karge said.

Since near the beginning of the school year, Kim Hanks has been serving as interim superintendent as well as high school principal and acting junior high school principal.

Karge said that being a principal alone is more than a full-time job without also having the responsibilities of being the superintendent.

She said when she was approached about the position, she told officials she would do it only on a part-time basis.

Karge will work in the district office two days a week through July 30. Her duties will include working with the district office staff, reviewing grant proposals, covering budgets and dealing with grievances.

“One of my goals is to get more unity between the schools again,” Karge said. She mentioned the importance of administrators’ meetings to share ideas and be connected.

After teaching in Wolf Point for 29 years, Karge served as the principal at Southside Elementary School for 11 years. She worked as the co-superintendent with Joe Paine for two years.
