The Wolf Point girls’ basketball team struggled in the third quarter and ended up losing at Scobey by a 43-38 final on Saturday, Jan. 15. Wolf Point led by a 20-14 half-time margin and 22-16 early in the third quarter until Scobey ran off 12 of the game’s next 14 points. Down 31-25, the Wolves finished the third quarter with baskets by Sierra Hamilton and Jaylee Azure to cut the margin

Poplar’s wrestlers displayed their talents during a mixer held in Circle on Tuesday, Jan. 11. Poplar’s freshman Angelina Escarcega scored two victories during the night’s action. Escarcega dominated action and defeated Circle’s Santiago Alonzo, 21-5, in her first match. Escarcega led 10-2 after the first period and 18-5 after the second period. Indians Place At Choteau Meet

Poplar’s wrestlers put together a strong showing at the Choteau Invitational during the weekend. In the boys’ standings, the Indians scored 57 points for 18th place. Jase Frederick earned second place at 120 pounds. He pinned Valier’s Chantz Connelly in 3:09 and then pinned Anaconda’s Aaron Micheles in 2:46. Shot clocks and baseball were given approval during the Montana High School Association’s annual meeting in Butte on Monday, Jan. 17. Schools voted the addition of 35-second shot clocks for boys’ and girls’ basketball. In addition, baseball was approved as a sport for the Montana High School Association. Poplar couldn’t quite overcome slow starts and lost two conference boys’ basketball games during the weekend. The Indians fell to Malta, 67-40, on Friday, Jan. 14.
