Indians Place At Choteau Meet

Poplar’s wrestlers put together a strong showing at the Choteau Invitational during the weekend.

In the boys’ standings, the Indians scored 57 points for 18th place.

Jase Frederick earned second place at 120 pounds. He pinned Valier’s Chantz Connelly in 3:09 and then pinned Anaconda’s Aaron Micheles in 2:46.

During the semi-final round, Frederick needed just 51 seconds to pin Guy Williams of Columbus/Absarokee. Frederick dropped a 7-3 decision against Simms’ Steven Schubarth in the title match.

Poplar’s Jacob Berger placed fourth at 285 pounds. Berger moved in the semi-final round by winning a 6-2 decision over Cut Bank’s Jeremy Gallagher and pinning Ethan Short of Columbus/ Absarokee/Park City in 2:30.

After losing on a fall in the semi-final round, Berger outpointed Whitehall’s Leo Scafani, 5-3.

Mitchell Youngman took sixth place at 145 pounds. Youngman won three of his first four matches on pins. He was pinned in his last two matches.

Poplar placed second in the girls’ division with 31 points. Anaconda captured first with 45 points.

Jazmin Gorder and Precious Keiser each won individual titles for the Indians.

Gorder pinned Simms’ Harley Wade in 1:18 and Anaconda’s Cora Pesanti in 1:25 at 113 pounds.

Keiser pinned Simms’ Morgan Feist in 1:40 at 145 pounds.
