Area Players Named Alternates For Shrine Game

Area football players were selected as alternates for the 76th edition of the Montana East-West Shrine Football Game.

Wolf Point’s Juliun Benson was voted an alternate at cornerback for the East team. Benson was an All-Conference and All-State selection for the Wolves this season.

Other alternates included Culbertson’s Colin Avance at guard and Froid/Lake’s Austen Hobbs at running back. Avance was an All-State selection and voted to play in the eight-man all-star football game. Hobbs was an All-State pick for the Red Hawks. Each team advanced to the semi-final round in state playoffs this season.

Fairview’s Hunter Sharbono was selected to the play for the East team at defensive end. He has signed to play collegiate football at Montana State University.

Other alternates included Malta’s Camryn Mears at linebacker and Glasgow’s Morgan Fast at outside linebacker.

The game is scheduled for June 17, at Butte High School. Lewistown’s Derek Lear for the East and Helena Capital’s Kyle Mihelish for the West will serve as head coaches.

The East leads the all-time series by a 41-34 margin.
