Cowgirls Defeat Scobey Squad

 

The Culbertson Cowgirls kept their volleyball season alive by sweeping Scobey at the district tournament in Plentywood on Friday, Oct. 28.

Culbertson posted a 25-17, 25-17, 25-22, victory.

The opening set was even at 6-6 until Culbertson gained a 12-7 advantage on kills by Jazzmin Fugere and Destiny Thompson along with aces by Alicyn Ator and Makena Hauge.

A kill and ace by Perla Burciaga along with a tip by Thompson increased the lead to 19-9. Ahead by a 21-16, the Cowgirls took command on two kills and a block by Hauge.

Five kills by Hauge led Culbertson to a 9-3 advantage in the second game. The strong serving of Fugere put the Cowgirls up by a 15-6 margin.

After Scobey closed the gap to 17-12, the Cowgirls ran off the next seven points on the net play of Hauge and Burciaga. Another kill by Hauge ended the set at 25-17.

Culbertson gained a 17-15 advantage in the third set on kills by Burciaga and Hauge along with a hard serve by Thompson. The Spartans earned an 18-17 lead, but a block and tip by Hauge put the Cowgirls back ahead.

After a kill by Thompson was good for a 23-21 margin, another kill by Thompson ended the match at 25-22.

The Cowgirls opened the day by downing Lustre Christian, 25-18, 25-15, 18-25, 25-18.

Leaders in kills for Culbertson were Hauge with 18, Thompson with nine, Fugere with four, Burciaga with three and Leandra Perkins with one. Hauge finished with three blocks while Thompson had two and Fugere added one.

Alicyn Ator finished with 24 assists. Ayden Ator and Perkins had one assist each. Leaders in digs were Thompson with 10, Burciaga with seven, Alicyn Ator with six, Fugere with five, Hauge with four, Perkins with three and Ayden Ator with one.

Burciaga served eight aces against Lustre. Also having aces were Alicyn Ator with seven, Hauge with four, Thompson with one and Per-Hauge kins with one.
