Wolf Point High School senior Daniel Sears is one of those students who certainly has achieved success in the spotlight. Whether it’s with the speech and drama team, the school band or in a play production, Sears loves to entertain.

Last school year, Sears earned the Class B state speech championship in the category of spontaneous oral interpretation.

Sears is teaming up with Del Eymard as a humorous theater duo this speech and drama season.

“We have five or six variations of Hansel and Gretal,” Sears explained.

The segments include original, Shakespearean, Vaudeville and English comedy.

“We even have Hansel and Gretal police edition,” Sears laughed.

He noted that students receive a script for the category to learn the dialogue.

“After that, it’s us putting our own actions into it,” Sears said. “Right now, I think we have a good chance to get the state championship out of it.”

He notes that he really enjoys being a member of Wolf Point’s speech and drama program.

“It’s a really young group, many are freshmen and sophomores. But there’s a lot of potential,” Sears said.

He is the only senior student on the squad so he feels that he has a leadership role.

“I help them out,” he said. “When they need to get serious, I have a talk with them.”

In band, Sears plays the baritone saxophone. He has been a member of the band since junior high school.

“For pep band, I have some of those songs memorized,” he said.

He is planning to perform either a duet or trio when music festivals are held this spring.

Sears is also looking forward to performing in the school’s spring play again this school year. “So far, the plays have been comedies or suspenses. It’s great to entertain people.”

As far as his favorite classes, Sears picks swing choir and weight training. With a squat lift of 500 pounds in the first quarter, he is close to the school record of 525 pounds.

His favorite teacher is music instructor Russell Johnson. “He’s more like an uncle to me,” Sears explained.

Sears has been accepted into the pre-medical program at MSU-Bozeman. He hopes to become a trauma surgeon.

“I want to be able to help people,” Sears said. “I want to save at least one family from unnecessary grief.”
