Lady Wolves Fall Short To Sidney Squad

Wolf Point’s girls had a bad ending as the Wolves lost in Sidney, 57-54, on Tuesday, Feb. 2.

The Wolves led by a 43-41 margin entering the fourth quarter. After Sidney tied the game at 45-45, Wolf Point struck for seven straight points on a three-pointer by J’Elle Garfield along with baskets by Sierra Hamilton and Jodi Houg for a 52-45 lead with 4:08 remaining.

A drive by Hamyanie Campbell put Wolf Point ahead 54-47 with 2:58 left in the conference game.

Sidney, however, accounted for the game’s last 10 points. The Eagles tied the game with a tie-breaker with 1:27 left and went ahead on a steal and layup by Sophie Peters with 1:18 left.

Wolf Point’s top scorers were Campbell with 17 and Josie Kolstad with 11.

Also scoring were Sierra Hamilton with eight, Jaylee Azure with six, Garfield with five, Hailey Nelson with four, Katlyn Macdonald with two and Jodi Houg with two.

Top scorers for Sidney were Olivia Schoepp with 17 and Peters with 13.

The Eagles hit 16 of 30 freethrow attempts compared to Wolf Point’s 13 of 25 tries.

A three-pointer by Azure put the Wolves up 12-8 at the end of the opening quarter.

Sidney enjoyed a 19-18 advantage until the Wolves reeled off 11 of the next 13 points. Kolstad led the way with five of the points.

Wolf Point led 27-23 at the half.

After Sidney took a 29-28 lead in the third quarter, the Wolves used the free-throw shooting of Campbell to earn a 37-32 lead.

A three-pointer by Azure increased the gap to 40-34 and the Wolves led 43-41 at the end of the third quarter.
