The very quick Lustre Lions jumped out to a 15-0 advantage en route to a 67-43 boys’ basketball win in Culbertson on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

The scoring of Elijah Lenihan and Kolden Hoversland along with a full-court pressure defensi effort led the Lions to the 15-0 lead during the game’s first five minutes.

Culbertson got on the scoreboard when Mike Pederson accounted for a threepoint play with 3:01 left in the opening quarter.

A drive by Hunter Lucas closed the margin to 15-5.

Lustre’s freshman Cayden Klatt connected on a threepoint shot to put the Lions up 18-5 to end the quarter.

The Lions enjoyed a good start to open the second quarter as two free throws by Kaleb Hoversland and a steal and layup by Klatt put the margin at 22-5. Lustre was able to increase its lead to 27-9 on five straight points by Kolden Hoversland midway into the second quarter.

The Cowboys ended the second quarter on a strong note when three points by Colin Avance and a hoop by Lucas cut the half-time margin to 27-14.

A pair of three-pointers by Klatt increased Lustre’s lead to 35-16 midway into the third quarter. The Lions led 44-26 at the end of the period.

Lustre’s top scorers were Klatt with 17, Kolden Hoversland with 17 and Lenihan with 13. Also scoring were Jasiah Hambria with nine, Kaleb Hoversland with eight and Braden Ewing with two.

Top scorers for Culbertson were Pederson with 16 and Avance with 13.

Also scoring were Lucas with six, Payton Perkins with four, Maurice Bighorn with two and Kobe Nickoloff with two.
