Brockton's cross country runners competed in Poplar on Saturday morning, Sept. 5. Malcolm Yellow Hammer, a junior, led the Warriors by taking 22nd with a time of 21:57.15. Quinn'Dale Pretty Paint, a freshman, placed 26th at 22:29.18.

Huff Fire Threatens Jordan, Residents Evacuated


A wildfire threatened the town of Jordan on Wednesday, Sept. 2, forcing evacuations. The fire began as a burning project on agricultural property about four miles northwest of the town. Jordan has fewer than 400 people and is located about 80 miles northwest of Miles City on Montana Highway 59. Residents were allowed to return to their homes and the blaze appeared to have left the town unscathed

Culbertson Cowboys Take On Defending Class C State Champs


The Culbertson Cowboys faced quite a challenge to open their football season. The Cowboys took on the defending Class C state champions. The Cowboys struggled with turnovers and lost the opener by a 48-0 final on Friday night, Sept. 4. “My kids continued to fight regardless of the score,” Culbertson coach Brian Manning said. “We were able to move the ball but kept turning it over.”

Fire Burns North Of Wolf Point September 2


A wildfire burned across the prairie north of Wolf Point Wednesday, Sept. 2. Total acres burned was 3,448, which includes a 65-acre flare up on Thursday. Crews from Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department, Valley County Long Run Fire Department, Bureau of Indian Affairs Fire Department, Daniels County Fire Department and Poplar Volunteer Fire Department all responded, along with numerous area landowners.
