Lady Bearcubs, Lions Play At Eastern C Divisional

Lustre Christian’s Lions posted a sixth-place finish in the boys’ tournament at the Eastern C Divisional tournament and Frazer’s Lady Bearcubs played two games in their fourth divisional tournament since 1986 at Glasgow High School Wednesday through Saturday Feb. 26-29.

The Northern C is comprised of teams from Districts 2C and 3C.

Scobey again dominated, winning the boys’ and girls’ divisional championships.

The Spartans beat Fairview 59-36 in the boys’ championship game. Dodson outlasted Froid/Medicine Lake 53-50 in the boys’ third- and fourth-place game. Only first and second places advance to the state tournament.

The Scobey girls defeated Westby/Grenora 40-36 for the championship and second- place.

The Frazer girls (4-6, 9-10) finished the regular season in fourth-place in District 3C and finished third at the district tournament. Frazer is going through a building process. Nine of the 11 players are underclassmen — six freshmen and three eighth-graders. The other two are juniors.

“We’ve been building since last year. There’s a lot of improvement,” head coach Bryce Kirk said “We just didn’t show up and play our game,” Kirk said of the divisional.

“We’re going to be a mainstay when it comes to divisionals,” he said.

Kirk said the future looks good for the Lady Bearcubs.

“We’ve got a lot of girls coming up that are in seventh grade,” he said.

Froid/Lake topped North Country 54-36 for third- and fourth-place.

Westby/Grenora challenged Froid/Lake for thirdplace which was played Monday, March 2, at Plentywood. Froid/Lake won that contest 47-39.
