A government review meeting was conducted at Poplar’s City Hall on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Serving on the community’s government review committee are presiding officer Keith Erickson, vice presiding officer Greg Norgaard and Darrell Werner.

Erickson explained that the goal for the committee was to recommend an alternate form of government or to recommend no changes take place.

The only visitor for the public meeting was Poplar Mayor John Grainger. There were no complaints about the current government in Poplar made during the hearing.

“One can assume the current form is performing fine,” Erickson said.

Residents are encouraged to attend the next public meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 19, starting at noon at city hall.

During the primary election, Poplar’s voters supported a local government review by a 49-24 margin.

The requirement of asking the public for a government review at least every 10 years was a result of the 1972 Constitution Convention in Montana. The commission must engaged in the community in such forms as surveys, open houses or town hall meetings.
