New Salon Opens In Culbertson
Amy’s Color and Cuts owner Amy Scott moved to the Culbertson area eight months ago from Wood, S.D. She opened her new business on the north side of U.S. Highway 2 near the high school approximately two weeks ago. She’s still waiting on her new sign but said business has already been steady.
“I’ve been very busy,” she told the Community News on Labor Day. She provided a tour of the new salon in the former Highway 2 Hair space next to the car wash and laundromat. Scott has redecorated the interior and added product lines including Goldwell, It’s a 10, Color Wow, Sexy Hair and Paul Mitchell, among others.
She offers an array of waxing services but said her main focus is color and cuts for women. “I looked at the town and noticed there weren’t any salons for miles around,” Scott said.
Scott was born in Henderson, N.M., near Las Vegas, and was raised in Arlington, Texas. After earning a bachelor’s degree in math from Dixie State University, she followed a lifelong interest in fixing hair with specialized training in Florida, where she was first licensed in the business. Since that time, she has practiced her trade in Minnesota. South Dakota and Texas. This is Scott’s first salon in Montana.
“I’m super excited to get to know Culbertson customers,” said Scott. “The thing I love about this industry is that women come in with their heads down, sometimes, but they leave bouncing and brimming. I’ve always liked that.”
Scott is open to cutting hair for men and boys. “I’m not a barber,” she said, “but I definitely can do men’s haircuts.”
Hours at the salon are Tuesday-Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments are highly recommended. “I will take appointments for off hours,” Scott said. She recommends calling ahead to check availability before driving a long distance for walk-in service.
