Culbertson Changes To Semester Schedule

There will be a change in schedule for Culbertson’s schools next year. Trustees voted by a 3-1 margin to switch to a seven-period semester schedule in 2024-2025 rather than a trimester schedule.

After reviewing rationale for the change, trustee Wendy Becker made a motion to approve the switch. Trustees Becker, Chris Petersen and Ian Walker voted in favor of the motion. Trustee Paul Finnicum voted against the motion.

The change will include more class periods for students so they have a better opportunity to take electives. Classes will be 12 minutes shorter than the present format.

Trustees approved several renovation projects including replacement of elementary and high school plumbing, installing pipe sleeve for sewer from the building to street, fixing the special education corner, elementary parking lot, high school restroom remodel, armory restroom remodel, armory exterior paint and armory entrance. Total estimated cost of the project is $419,000.

Trustees approved the Millard E. Peterson Scholarship Rules for Award as presented.

Hired as guest teachers were Shannon O’Brien, Harlie Fileman and Alexi Roeder.

Abbey Granbois was hired to an extended classified contract through the school year.

It was announced that Culbertson had 20 band and choir students selected to attend the honors concert in Glasgow on Jan. 29.

Trustees approved additional teachers for three elementary classrooms for next school year so at least three of the k-4 grade levels will have two classrooms.
