Bainville Starts Well At Tournament


The Bainville Bulldogs took first place in their pool and advanced into the semi-final round during the Culbertson Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 26.
During pool play at the season-opening volleyball tournament, the Bulldogs posted victories over Froid/ Lake, Nashua and Culbertson’s JVs.
Bainville opened elimination play by beating Lustre Christian by a 25-19, 25-18, final.
The Bulldogs trailed early in the first set, but two aces by Brecklyn Pippenger and a kill by Hailey Berwick put Bainville up 10-9.
After Lustre regained the lead, Bainville used a spike by Berwick and a serve by Kendra Romo to grab a 19-16 advantage. Ahead by a 20-19 margin, Bainville struck for the final five points of the set including three aces by Berwick and a block by B. Pippenger.
The net play of Elsie Wilson and B. Pippenger led the Bulldogs to a 17-13 lead in the second set. Addison Hansen served a pair of aces to increase the margin to 23-16.
The Bulldogs ended the match on a kill by Wilson.
After a strong start, the Bulldogs lost to Scobey, 2518, 17-25, 9-15, in the semi-final round.
B. Pippenger had an impressive first set against the Spartans to lead Bainville to a 14-7 advantage. A kill by Miah Pippenger and a tip by Berwick increased the gap to 17-9.
Another kill by Berwick and an ace by Siena Martinez helped Bainville take the first set by a 25-18 final.
Scobey jumped out to a 2012 lead in the second set and earned a 25-17 win.
In the deciding set, Bainville stayed close early as a tip by Kaelyn Romo and a serve by Wilson produced a 5-5 deadlock.
After Scobey moved ahead, a block by Lila Butikofer and a kill by Wilson closed the margin to 13-9. The Spartans then struck for the final two points.
The Bulldogs will travel to Brockton on Thursday, Aug. 31, and Froid/Lake on Friday, Sept. 1.
