The team of Peyton Pedersen and Mykayla Lauckner earned top honors during the Fort Peck Women’s Walleye Tournament held on Saturday, July 29.

Lauckner of Nashua and Pedersen won the championship with a total weight of 23.87 pounds.

Although Lauckner has enjoyed some success this season with a different partner, this was the first time that she and Pedersen have competed at a tournament together.

“We did it just for fun,” Pedersen said.

Willy Lauckner, Mykayla’s brother, served as the team’s navigator.

They didn’t expect the strong showing in the tournament that featured 45 teams.

“I was surprised. Willy was probably expecting it,” Mykayla said.

Placing second was the mother/daughter team of Carly Rush and Ayla Rush. The Wolf Point team finished with 23.18 pounds.

Carly said they had a chance for an even better result but lost a couple of opportunities.

“It was pretty fun,” she added.

Vanessa and Peyton Eggebrecht of Fort Peck took third place with 19.30 pounds.

The Glasgow team of Mary Henry and Julie Gutow placed fourth at 17.76 pounds. Glasgow’s Emily Young and Kelsey Schewen earned fifth at 17.5 pounds.

Carly and Ayla Rush won the honor for the biggest walleye. Young and Schewen placed second in that category.

McKinsey Justice and Sam Taylor caught the biggest northern. April and Emika Beardsley took second place.

Sara Jimison and Morgan Ellis caught the biggest bass. Myla Jo Barton and Penny McNary placed second.
