Senior Profile Froid’s Elvsaas Succeeds in BPA, Speech

Froid High School senior Makaylee Elvsaas has made a mark at the state level in both Business Professionals of America and speech and drama during her high school career.

For speech and drama, Elvsaas competed in extemporaneous speaking and earned seventh place at the state competition this year.

This was only her second year in the activity after Froid started to offer the program.

“I loved it. I loved being in that sport,” Elvsaas said. “I was proud of myself for making it that far at State.”

At the BPA state competition, Elvsaas earned fifth place in integrated office procedures and seventh in extemporaneous speaking. She qualified for the national level in integrated office procedures.

Elvsaas has enjoyed the experiences gained through BPA including how to dress professionally and to act with confidence among others.

As far as sports, Elvsaas has participated in track, volleyball and golf. She says track is her favorite sport.

She competes in the events of discus, shot put and javelin during track and field season. Her goal is to qualify for the state meet this spring.

In the classroom, her favorite subjects are art and writing. She hopes to write realistic fiction stories in the future.

Her favorite teacher is Calie Wineinger.

“She’s a confident and respectful teacher,” Elvsaas said. “She asks questions and keeps the class interested.”

Elvsaas plans to attend Dawson Community College and study criminal law. Her goal is to become a private investigator.

Except for kindergarten, Elvsaas has attended school in Froid. She is thankful for her education.

“It’s so small so you get close to all the students and teachers,” she said.
