The Wolf Point girls’ basketball team struggled in the third quarter and ended up losing at Scobey by a 43-38 final on Saturday, Jan. 15.

Wolf Point led by a 20-14 half-time margin and 22-16 early in the third quarter until Scobey ran off 12 of the game’s next 14 points.

Down 31-25, the Wolves finished the third quarter with baskets by Sierra Hamilton and Jaylee Azure to cut the margin to 31-29.

After a pair of free throws by Josie Kolstad tied the non-conference contest at 3131, Scobey struck for the next eight points for a 39-31 advantage with under six minutes remaining.

A three-pointer by J’Elle Garfield and two free throws by Hamilton closed the margin to 39-35 with 4:15 left. Another three-pointer by Garfield got the Wolves as close as 41-38 with only 24 seconds remaining.

Top scorers for Wolf Point were Hamilton with 12 and Garfield with 11 points.

Also scoring were Kolstad with six, Azure with five, Hamyanie Campbell with three and Katelyn MacDonald with one.

Baskets by Garfield and Hamilton put the Wolves up 13-7 to end the opening quarter.

Wolf Point’s largest lead of the second quarter was 18-10 when Garfield scored on a drive with 4:41 remaining in the half.

The Wolves will host Poplar on Friday, Jan. 21, and head to Malta on Saturday, Jan. 22.
