Beston, Garfield Place At Tourney

The Wolf Point Wolves wrestled at the Scottie Invitational in Glasgow on Friday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 11.
On Friday, the Wolves competed in a mixer. Joli Beston won all three of her matches in the mixer. “Joli moved up a weight class in this event to kind of test the waters. She did great,” Wolf Point Coach Scott Vandall said. “She had a little sweet revenge on a girl from Miles City that was also a finalist last year. That was a great match for her. She had to fight off her back a couple times in this match.”
Jordan Davis won two of three matches. “He wrestled well. The match he lost was to a Class A kid,” Vandall said.
Chance Smith went 2-0 in the mixer. “He did a great job. I was very happy with his matches,” Vandall said.
Mason Garfield went 1-0 during the mixer.
In the actual tournament, Davis got a bye in the first round. He then wrested a Glasgow wrestler that was a top six placer at state last year. “He did good. We lost the match but gave him a scare for a second,” Vandall said.
Davis lost his next match in the tournament. “This was a tough one. He was right there in this match, made a small tactical error toward the end of the match and lost by one. Not a big deal right now it was a good learning point for Jordan,” Vandall said.
Smith had one match in the tournament Friday. “He got some sweet revenge with a kid from Harlem that beat him in the seventh-eighth place match last year in divisional,” Vandall said. “This was the best I have seen him wrestle. He won it in three overtimes. This was an eight-minute match. Chance has really showed up these last two weekends. I’m very happy with him. Unfortunately, Chance got sick Friday night at home and couldn’t wrestle on Saturday. Chance could of have placed in the top eight.”
Garfield went 4-1 in the tournament and earned third place. “Mason did quite well. We lost the semi-final match With the Huntley kid we have wrestled for the last four years. He came back and won his last two matches by major decision,” Vandall said. “Mason was pretty upset with himself after the semi-final match. We were wining the match wrestling hard. But made one little mistake. It seems like we can’t catch a break with this kid. He’s good wrestler and we just can’t make those. Mason knows that and we felt we have his number. And we will get him some time.”
Beston earned third place in the girls’ tournament. “Joli had a good tournament,” Vandall said. “She lost her semi-final match against a girl that beat her in Sidney. She was controlling the match. She just didn’t move really great on the bottom. We have plans on fixing that this weekend. Joli came back with two wins. She was a little down, But she did a great job.”
