The Wolf Point Yellow Jackets accounted for a strong defensive effort in their 6-2 home loss against the Billings Cardinals on Wednesday, July 7.

Pitchers Canyon Casterline and Preston Swenson combined on a solid pitching combination for the Yellow Jackets.

Defensive highlights included centerfielder Terry Allmer catching a line drive and turning it into a double play. While pitching, Swenson had a line drive bounced off his glove, and then he caught it for a spectacular out.

The Yellow Jackets scored the game’s first run when Swenson singled and scored in the bottom of the first inning.

Billings moved ahead with two runs in the second and three more in the top of the fourth for a 5-1 advantage.

Wolf Point added a run in the bottom of the fourth when Casterline crossed the plate.

Allmer led the Yellow Jackets with three of the team’s six hits.

In the second game of the double header, the Cardinals won by a 19-4 final.

Billings scored nine of its runs in the third inning to grab a 13-2 advantage.

Having Wolf Point’s four hits were Swenson, Casterline, Gage Bushman and Mitchell.

Swenson scored of Wolf Point’s runs. Adding runs were Charlie Page and Bushman. Casterline knocked in one run.

The Wolf Point Yellow Jackets lost against the Billings Blue Jays, 17-0, in home American Legion baseball play on Friday, July 9.

The Blue Jays took a 7-0 lead in the first three innings and then scored five runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

Wolf Point’s only hit came from Gaige Bushman.

Bushman, Preston Swenson and Terry Allmer pitched for Wolf Point.

The second game of the double-header against the Blue Jays was canceled due to rain.

The Yellow Jackets have a busy week ahead with home games against Glendive on Friday, July 16, starting at 5 p.m.; against Miles City on Saturday, July 17, starting at 1 p.m.; and against Laurel on Sunday, July 18, starting at 11 a.m.
