Teacher Describes Wolf Point Students As Awesome

Wolf Point High School history/government teacher Ryan Wilson says the school district features pretty much everything a teacher desires including strong administration, a solid teaching staff and students eager to learn.
“I’ve truly enjoyed it,” Wilson said of teaching in Wolf Point. “The administration has let me show up and do my work. That’s something I will really miss. They let me teach and coach, I really appreciate that.” After teaching in Wolf Point the last six years, he has decided to accept a similar position in Malta.
“We’re kind of like gypsies,” Wilson laughed. “About every five years, me and wife need to move.”
During that time, he has gained a good amount of popularity especially among the students. In newspaper articles, many of the seniors listed him as their favorite teacher.
“They’re lying. They want some extra credit,” Wilson joked.
He does note that it’s important to have a solid relationship with students, and he feels that Wolf Point’s students are outstanding.
“Our kids have been awesome,” Wilson said. “The biggest thing is I put accountability on the kids. I work with them, and I also goof off.”
You usually can spot Wil- son when there’s a Wolf Point sports contest or other school activity behind held.
“They like to see you support them,” Wilson said. “You’re vested in the school.”
He feels that Wolf Point’s teachers play a key role in making sure a quality education experience is available. “I have nothing but respect for the others teachers,” Wilson said.
During his time in Wolf Point, he has encountered some phenomenal students that carried high grade point averages. “A lot of it is the kids stepping up and doing what they have to,” Wilson said.
One of the best things that educators see is when students who struggled as freshmen or sophomores become much better students as juniors and seniors.
“The kids grow up a little bit, and they realize they can’t just depend on teachers,” Wilson said. “It’s up to them. They earn their grades.”
He adds that he will miss the school and the good friendships that he has made. He’s thankful for different individuals that he has coached with in Wolf Point.
Wilson said this year’s graduating class with includes his son, Austin, has a special place in his heart. “My own son is in this group. I know these kids well,” he said.
But he admits most of the students are pretty special at the school.
“The kids are pretty awesome here,” Wilson said. “Most of them want to be educated and to do well.”
