Fourth Federal Complaint Filed Against Strommen
A new complaint was filed in U.S. District Court last week requesting damages for alleged sexual abuse at the hands of former Valley County Undersheriff Luke Strommen. Strommen was convicted in July 2020 on the charge of sexual intercourse without consent, or rape. He has filed a notice of appeal to the Montana Supreme Court on the conviction and sentencing in the case.
The new filing is the fourth federal complaint against Stommen. It details Strommen’s alleged sexual conduct and accuses Valley County of failing to take action.
Valley County officials placed Strommen on administrative leave in June 2018 and opened an investigation for official misconduct. Strommen was campaigning for sheriff at the time. A 12-person jury found Strommen guilty after a five day trial in Glasgow. On Dec. 8, Strommen was sentenced to 40 years in the Montana State Prison with the opportunity for parole after 10 years served. Strommen is currently incarcerated at the state prison in Deer Lodge.
The federal complaints against Strommen request unspecified punitive damages and other relief for mental health treatment, pain and suffering, lost wages and impaired earning ability.
