Wolves Down Cut Bank At Divisional Tourney


Wolf Point took control from the start to knock off Cut Bank, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19, in the loser-out bracket at the divisional volleyball tournament in Shelby on Thursday, Nov. 5.
In the opening set, Wolf Point earned the first 10 points as kills by J’Elle Garfield, Kayden Sibley and Jewel Olson led the way.
Cut Bank was able to get as close as 13-8, but Wolf Point responded with a kill by Mikaya Smoker-Dewitt, a kill by Sierra Hamilton and an ace by Gracie Ferdina en route to a 21-8 advantage.
Cut Bank came as close as 23-16 before Wolf Point accounted for the last two points.
The second set was deadlocked at 7-7 until a kill by Sierra Hamilton and an ace by Demi Kegley put Wolf Point in the lead. A kill by Smoker- Dewitt produced a 17-14 advantage.
Ahead by only a 19-18 margin, Wolf Point struck for three straight points on a kill by Olson, a kill by Smoker- Dewitt and an ace by Hailey Nelson.
After Cut Bank closed the gap to 22-19, Wolf Point ended the second set with a kill by Hamilton and two strong serves by Sibley.
Wolf Point led 10-9 in the third set and then increased the gap on an ace by Hamilton and two kills by Olson. Two more aces by Hamilton, a freshman, helped Wolf Point take an 18-9 advantage.
Kills by Sibley, Sarah Williamson and Hamilton built the lead to 23-17. With the score at 24-19, the final point was scored on a spike by Garfield.
Wolf Point opened the tournament with a tough 14-25, 14-25, 11-25, loss against Shelby.
