Poplar Wins Match At Divisional Tourney
The Poplar Indians scored one victory at the District 2B volleyball tournament held in Malta on Oct. 29-30.
Poplar edged Harlem three games to two games on Thursday, Oct. 29, to highlight the Indians’ run at the tournament.
Poplar Coach William Bemer was very proud of how the Indians stepped up in the match against Harlem.
The Indians lost to top-seeded Glasgow, 11-25, 16-25, 11-25, on Friday, Oct. 30.
Morgen Nordwick, a sophomore, led Poplar with two aces and three blocks against Glasgow.
Keandra Martell, a senior, finished with 10 kills for the Indians. Jazmyn Gorder, a junior, accounted for 10 digs.
In a match to decide a divisional berth, Poplar fell to Malta by a 25-19, 17-25, 9-25, 16-25, final.
Macey Stump, a 6-2 senior, accounted for 10 kills and eight blocks against Malta.
Gorder finished with eight assists. Nordwick served five aces.
Justine Lamb led Malta with 11 kills and four blocks. Erica Smith finished with 18 assists.
