Scobey School Board Conducts Business

Scobey Superintendent of Schools Greg Hardy reported a decline in student enrollment during the monthly school board meeting held on Oct. 13.

Hardy said this year’s enrollment consists of 268 students.

“It is down to where we were three years ago, we were almost at 300,” Hardy said.

During his superintendent’s report, Hardy said work is being done with emergency authorized teachers to get their accreditation completed. He explained the first goal is to get the teachers emergency certified and the second goal is working for them to earn certified teaching licenses.

Hardy explained to trustees that less students equal less money, and non-licensed teachers also equals less funding.

He also addressed the hope that Board of Education’s requirements change for driving a small bus.

Teacher negotiations for a new contract is anticipated to start in the early part of 2027.

Trustees approved the Scobey Lions Club to sell 50/50 tickets during winter sports games this school year. Trustees also agreed to abandon the old football scoreboards.

The hourly rate for a testing proctor was increased to $35 an hour.

During public comment, the board heard that the FFA program includes 30 active students this year. Several Scobey students placed in the top 40 during the NILE livestock competition that features about 300 participants.
