Culbertson School Board Backs Vocational Consortium

Culbertson trustees agreed to serve as the fiscal host for a sixschool vocational consortium and approved an amended speech and drama agreement with Froid/Medicine Lake during their Sept. 17 school board meeting.

The SHARE Consortium will provide vocational skills modules to students at its six member schools. Donations will be sought to purchase equipment for the program.

The board also approved a speech and drama cooperative agreement for the 2026-27 school year after trustees raised questions about practice times, activity fees and how costs would be shared.

Under the amended agreement, costs would be divided according to the number of students participating, students would pay a $50 activity fee, and Froid/Medicine Lake students would arrive for practice by 4 p.m. The amended agreement will be presented to the Froid/Medicine Lake cooperative for its approval.

In other businesses, trustees hired Jamason Schmidt as assistant coach for junior high boys’ basketball. They also approved Cassie Williams, Whitney Smith, Bailey Finnicum and Jackie Olson as guest teachers, pending background checks.

The board approved adding six miles per day to bus Route No. 1, bringing the route to 87.8 miles daily. Trustees also voted to post a first reading of a policy and procedure concerning federal impact funds.

School reports noted that fall testing had been completed and that fourth and fifth graders had attended an outdoor classroom in Williston, N.D., and visited the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, N.D. A planned purchase of additional Chromebooks was postponed until November.

A concern was also raised about spending deficits in the school lunch program. The board may consider raising meal prices at its next regular meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19. No change to meal prices was approved Sept. 17.
