Culbertson Edges Lustre

The Culbertson Cowgirls fought off Lustre in a non-conference volleyball match that went four sets on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The Cowgirls emerged with a 25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 25-21, victory.

After trailing in the first set, Lustre pulled even at 22-22 on a back-row kill by Aleah Fast.

The Cowgirls, however, scored the final three points of the set including an ace by Kalia Featherston to end the set.

In the second set, the net play of A. Fast led the hometown Lions to a 23-16 advantage.

A kill by Charity Wilbanks pulled the Cowgirls to 23-18, but Lustre ended the set with an ace by A. Fast.

A kill by Natalie Fast and an ace by Samantha Neufeld helped Lustre cut Culbertson’s lead to 20-16 in the third set. A backrow kill by A. Fast, an ace by Harlo Reddig and a kill by N. Fast kept the Lions close at 21-19.

The Cowgirls responded with a spike by Payton Labatte, an ace by Emma Berwick and a kill by Stella Fox to earn a 24-19 lead.

A. Fast accounted for a kill to cut the margin to 24-22, but Culbertson took the win at 25-22.

Culbertson enjoyed a good start in the fourth set as kills by Labatte, Featherston and Wilbanks produced an 11-6 lead.

Berwick, a 6-1 senior, then controlled action with three kills to put the margin at 19-10. A kill by Featherston increased the gap to 21-11.

Kills by Wilbanks gave the Cowgirls a 23-14 cushion, but Lustre rallied behind the serving and hitting of A. Fast. Kills by N. Fast and Reddig closed the gap to 23-21.

The Cowgirls fought off Lustre with a 25-22 win as the match ended on a hit by Berwick.
