Flag Football Teams Battle It Out During Games In Poplar

Wolf Point’s flag football team scored a pair of victories during action held in Poplar on Monday, Aug. 31.

The Wolves stopped Glasgow by a 14-0 final in their first contest of the day.

Wolf Point reached the end zone on its opening drive on a run by Addy Smith.

Glasgow put together a nice drive to start the third quarter, but Wolf Point’s Maci Fourstar intercepted a pass and returned the ball to near midfield.

Passes from Fourstar to McKinlee Paulson and Mc’Kenzie Jackson advanced the ball to the Glasgow 25. Smith then made the play of the night by leaping high for a catch at the five.

A play later, Fourstar passed to Paulson for a touchdown. Smith raced in for the conversion for a 14-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Glasgow’s next drive ended again on an interception by Fourstar.

The Wolves then downed Poplar by a 26-12 final.

The Wolves struck first on a run by Smith to gain a 6-0 advantage over the Indians.

Poplar responded with a long pass from Frankie Gourneau to Liberty Boadle, but the threat ended on an interception by Fourstar near the end of the first quarter.

Fourstar connected on passes to Paulson and Anna Matejovsky to drive deep inside Poplar territory. A 20-yard pass from Fourstar to Jackson produced a touchdown and a 12-0 advantage.

Wolf Point’s defense then got into the scoring column when Matejovsky intercepted a pass and raced 65 yards for a touchdown. Fourstar passed to Smith for a 19-0 lead.

Another threat by the Wolves later in the half ended when Boadle intercepted a pass. Ahead by a 19-0 half-time margin, the Wolves ran to a 26-12 final victory. Matejovsky added a touchdown for the Wolves in the second half.

Poplar opened the day’s play by dropping a tough 18-16 game against Glasgow.

Scoring touchdowns for the Indians were Boadle, Carsyn Four Bear and Emily Ann Meyers.
