Red Hawks Score Wins In Sidney

The Froid/Lake Red Hawks enjoyed a successful opening weekend of the season as they placed second in their pool and won a bracket match during the Eastern C Showcase in Sidney on Saturday, Aug. 29.

The Red Hawks defeated Sidney’s JVs, 25-21, 25-18, and Plevna, 25-11, 25-13, during pool play action. Froid/Lake split sets against Ekalaka, 2524, 11-22.

Froid/Lake then opened bracket play with a 25-11, 2516, victory over MonDak.

Ahead by a 17-9 margin in the first set, the Red Hawks used aces by Laytyn Davidson to gain a 22-9 advantage. The set ended on a kill by Isabelle Nordwick. The Red Hawks jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the second set against MonDak as the serving of L. Davidson along with kills by Nordwick and Atley Jensen highlighted play.

Froid/Lake then met up with a solid Scobey squad in the semi-final round. The Spartans took the hardfought match by a 25-19, 2521, final.

After falling behind early in the first set, the Red Hawks battled back to 7-6 on serves by Camri Salvevold.

A block by Joelle Davidson kept the Red Hawks close at 14-10, but Scobey ran off the next three points including two on aces by Nikki Rush.

Froid/Lake kept fighting back as kills by Nordwick and Jensen along with another block by J. Davidson put the margin at 21-17. The Spartans, however, went on to a 25-19 victory.

The Red Hawks gained a 7-0 start in the second set on strong serves by L. Davidson and the net play of Nordwick.

An ace by Keira Stentoft kept Froid/Lake ahead, 14-9, and a block by Nordwick was good for a 16-13 lead.

After Scobey tied the score at 17-17, the Red Hawks responded with a serve by L. Davidson and a tip by Nordwick for a 20-17 advantage. The Spartans, who went on to win the tournament, scored eight of the set’s final nine points.
