Daniels County Appoints Lekvold

The Daniels County commissioners held their regular meeting Monday, Aug. 17. Morgan Lekvold was appointed to fill a vacancy as the county’s veterans service officer. Lekvold said it was needed for the processing of recorded DD214 forms and other paperwork for area veterans.

Librarian Arlene Kegley spoke to the council about leaky drain lines from the rooftop air conditioners. “It soaked two of our ceiling tiles,” Kegley said. She said replacement tiles were already up and provisional repairs to the water lines had been completed, with additional line replacements planned. She also said that a section of waterlogged insulation had been removed and would need to be replaced before winter.

Public affairs specialist Colden Brown with the U.S. Small Business Administration spoke to the commissioners about loan programs offered to area residents as a result of natural disaster declarations on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation. Brown said he would be in the area through Sept. 9.

Grant writer Michelle Weight spoke about her role as a fundraiser on government projects and detailed her services and costs. A motion was approved to hire her on a contract basis at a rate of $50 per hour, with 50 percent refundable on unsuccessful grant bids.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness program paperwork was approved for Logan Olson, who is a full time employee with the county.

Sample drug testing policy language from Lane and Associates was reviewed and discussed. As written, the sample policy states all employees would be subject to random testing and all new employees would be tested when hired. Commissioners discussed the possible gray areas and repercussions of adopting changes. No action was taken.

A motion was approved to purchase a backup camera for a garbage truck at a cost of $109.99.
