Larson Serves As Wolf Point’s Athletic Director
After being hired for the position in late July, Cody Larson looks for continued growth in Wolf Point’s athletic department as the school district’s new athletic director, “My philosophy with anything in Wolf Point or Frazer has been to do what’s best for the students,” Larson said. “We want to do what we feel is best for them.”
Larson served as Wolf Point’s athletic director for two years and then was athletic director in Frazer for three years.
His coaching experience includes just about every single school sport. At one point, he was the head coach for every sport in Frazer. “I was just thankful that they didn’t have wrestling,” Larson joked. This fall, he will serve as head coach for Wolf Point’s flag football program.
Larson is looking forward to working with Wolf Point’s coaching staff, which includes several coaches without a good deal of varsity experience.
Through his experience, Larson has found that athletic directors and assistant coaches can help coaches a lot by challenging them with different opinions.
Larson credits former Wolf Point superintendent and coach Jim Baldwin as a big influence in his life. Larson still calls Baldwin about once a week.
“He always found a way to put the kids first,” Larson explained.
He learned from Baldwin that details matter to a program’s success. That’s why Larson always washed the uniforms for his teams. “Those little things matter,” he said.
Just little things also help create pride in programs. “You have to find ways to have a lot of pride,” Larson said. “I want to see everybody have fun this fall. Hopefully, everybody can just enjoy Wolf Point athletics.”
Larson will also teach physical education part time at the school. He stresses that academics should always come first.
“We want good, productive people coming out of our school,” Larson said. “We have some phenomenal kids.”
