Albus Takes Grand Champion Title

Three years into showing market beef at the Roosevelt County Fair, Jodi Albus saw her hard work pay off when her market steer earned grand champion honors during this year’s Roosevelt County Fair.

Albus’ steer was later purchased by CHS of Wolf Point during the fair’s market sale.

Raising a market steer is a yearround commitment, and for Albus, preparations for next year will begin not long after this year’s fair comes to an end.

“After the fair ends, I will wait a bit and then begin looking for a steer to raise for next year,” Albus said.

Throughout the year, Albus works with her animals to make sure they are well cared for and progressing as they should. Proper nutrition is an important part of preparing a steer for the show ring, and Albus credits her mom with helping along the way.

“Feeding is very important,” Albus said. “My mom is a lot of help when it comes to planning the steer’s diet. My mom helps me determine whether I need to add more fat to the diet or make other dietary changes.”

That time, care and preparation came together in the show ring this year, earning Albus one of the fair’s top honors.

With another Roosevelt County Fair behind her, Albus is already looking ahead to what next year may bring.

“I am looking forward to another year of doing market beef and hope to bring home another grand champion next year,” Albus said.
