Lustre Takes Second Place At State Track Meet
Johnslee Pierre finished his high school career with four individual state titles as a senior to lead Lustre Christian to the second-place team trophy in Laurel during the weekend.
The Lions accounted for 71 points for second place. Cascade won the Class C championship with 82 points.
Pierre earned titles with a first in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 49.04 seconds, first in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 38.13 seconds, first in the long jump with a mark of 22-10 and first in the triple jump at 45-8.
Prestyn Klatt ran to a second- place finish in the 800 at 2:00.83 and earned third in the 1600 at 4:39.05.
Jaycee Hilkemann finished third in the 3200 at 10:25.36 and fourth in the 1600 at 4:41.25.
The 1600-meter relay team featuring KJ Brown, Cam Reddig, Klatt and Pierre placed third with a time of 3:32.59.
The 400-meter relay team consisting of Diek Olfert, Hadden Olfert, Brown and Reddig finished sixth at 44.96 seconds.
In the girls’ division, Lustre’s Kencia Brown earned second place with a personal best of 126-0.
Richey/Lambert ran away with the girls’ team title with 78 points. Belt placed second with 48 points and Turner took third with 35 points.
Leading the Fusion to the title were first-place performances by Jolee Klempel in the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, shot put and long jump, and Brynne Hill with a state championship in the triple jump.
Other Eastern C athletes winning state titles were Whitewater’s Kennedy Simonson in the javelin and Saco’s Emerson Downing in the pole vault.
