Lustre Boys Win Eastern C Track Championship
Five divisional championship performances by senior Johnslee Pierre led Lustre to the Eastern C divisional team title in Lambert on Thursday, May 21.
The Lions finished with 113 points in the boys’ division for the divisional crown. Culbertson was second with 96 points and Circle took third with 50 points.
Lustre’s girls tied for fifth place with 44 points. The top three girls’ teams were defending state champion Richey/Lambert with 86, Circle with 55 and Ekalaka with 48 points.
Pierre earned titles in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 50.78 seconds, 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 14.99 seconds, 300-meter hurdles at 38.5 seconds, long jump at 21-6 and triple jump at 47-2.
The Lions also scored plenty in distance runs. Prestyn Klatt (4:45.52) and Jaycee Hilkemann (4:45.72) were first and second in the 1600.
Hilkemann, a sophomore, finished first in the 3200 with a personal best time of 10:21.44.
In the 800, Klatt placed second at 2:04.31 and Hilkemann was third at 2:06.92.
Lustre’s 400-meter relay team featuring Diek Olfert, Hadden Olfert, KJ Brown and Cam Reddig finished first with a time of 45.99 seconds.
The 1600-meter relay team consisting of Brown, Reddig, Chris Traeholt and Klatt placed second at 3:40.64.
Klatt cleared 5-4 for fifth place in the high jump.
H. Olfert had a mark of 39-7 for sixth place in the shot put.
In the girls’ division, Samantha Neufeld won the divisional title in the 800 with a personal best time of 2:31.96.
Kencia Brown had a mark of 114-0 to take third place in the javelin.
Placing fourth for the Lions were Brown with a time of 13.4 in the 100 and Sidney Klatt with a personal best time of 13:02.15 in the 3200.
Earning fifth-place honors were Justice Byers at 1:05.81 in the 400, Lauryn Holzrichter at 52.92 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles and Klatt at 6:07.28 in the 1600.
Lustre’s girls’ 400-meter relay team featuring Holzrichter, Byers, Neufeld and Brown finished in second place at 54.23 seconds.
The 1600-meter relay team of Neufeld, Holzrichter, Byers and Brown took third place at 4:31.09.
Scoring for Brockton at the meet was sophomore BraeLynn DeMarrias in sixth place with a time of 14:43.81.
The Class C state meet begins Thursday, May 28, in Laurel.
