Bainville Senior Profile

Bainville High School senior Sierra Skor has been around cattle for as long as she can remember. She started working with cattle at the age of 3, and showed her first heifer at the young age of 4.

“It’s basically what I’ve born to do at least to this point,” Skor said.

Her passion for the cattle industry can clearly be seen with her involvement as she is a member of the American Aberdeen Association and treasurer of the American Junior Aberdeen Association. She also served as an ambassador for Williams County, N.D. 4-H.

Aberdeen is a cattle bred that is known for fertility, east-calving, efficiency on grass, structural correctness and docility.

Skor explains, “The meat is bred to be better quality so you have better marbling for your animal.”

Since she started at such a young age, Skor now owns 40-50 cattle on the family ranch located just a mile east of the Montana-North Dakota border.

Her commitment has translated into her achieving a large amount of honors including grand overall champion for senior beef showmanship at the Williams County Fair.

She says that she treasures the crown and sash for being the current queen of American Aberdeen. She explains that winning the honor included going through an interview process. The honor is for 15-21 year old girls and lasts one year.

Appearances as the queen for her will include the national show held in Denver, Colo., and the junior national show.

Skor also keeps active in school as her involvement includes volleyball, cheer, FFA and Business Professionals of America. She is the treasurer for student council.

In FFA, she qualified for the state meet for livestock judging when she was a sophomore.

She was involved in cheer for five years. A highlight was performing their first ever stunt when she was a freshman.

In the classroom, her favorite subject is zoology and her favorite teacher is Allie Bowker.

After high school, Skor plans to attend Williston State College for two years and earn her associates degree in the agriculture program. Then she will do some traveling before working to obtain a bachelors degree in either education or science. One hope is to become a science teacher.

She said her “biggest dream” is being able to combine her love of science and agriculture to become a livestock embryologist.
