Wolf Point Students Pitch In At Food Pantry
A group of Wolf Point High School seniors experienced a lesson in community service on Tuesday, April 14.
Teacher Jaki Harada brought her college composition class over to the Wolf Point Food Pantry to help volunteers distribute food for an hour on that day.
Harada explained that one requirement of that class is performing at least two community volunteer hours.
“I want them to volunteer as much as possible,” Harada said.
Students kept busy piling and moving items in order that older volunteers could provide the needed assorted items to area residents. The food pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., usually the second Tuesday of the month.
Gary Johnson, a leader at the Wolf Point Food Pantry, was grateful for the students’ assistance.
“Every little bit helps,” Johnson said. “It’s good, we’re all old.” He noted that the youngest adult volunteer is probably Je_ Harada.
The food pantry serves about 180 families a month.
Jaki Harada plans to return with a group of senior students on the food pantry’s next distribution day on May 12. Students receive college credit for the advanced class.
“Since they are all seniors, I thought it was good to have a requirement to get them to do community service,” Harada explained.
