Poplar’s Tennis Squad Looks Forward To Learning Season
Poplar’s tennis team features about 10 girls this season who are learning and enjoying the sport under first-year head coach Macey Dionne.
The turnout is quite an improvement over last year’s three tennis players for the Indians.
“Tennis is great,” Dionne said of why the girls want to play. “It’s one of the sports that helps you build character.”
Dionne was a three-sport standout during her high school career in Poplar. She said that playing tennis helped her become stronger mentally.
Returning players for the Indians are Paityn Greyhawk, Essence Headdress and Ruby Blackhorn.
Seniors for the squad are Greyhawk and Headdress.
Dionne said she wants the girls to realize that although tennis is an individual sport, it is also important to function as a team.
She wants to stress team work and sportsmanship. The Indians are scheduled to open their season on Friday, April 10, at either Glendive or Baker.
