Lustre Opens With 66-52 Win Over Hawks
Lustre Christian led from the start to beat Chester-Joplin- Inverness, 66-52, in the first round of the Class C state basketball tournament in Missoula on Wednesday, March 11.
The scoring of Joel Reddig and Cam Reddig led the Lions to a 20-11 advantage in the opening quarter.
Lustre stayed hot in the second period as a three-pointer by Chris Traeholt, a drive by Klatt, a basket by Cam Reddig and a drive by J. Reddig produced a 32-18 lead.
Klatt connected on a three-pointer to end the half at 40-24.
After the Hawks pulled to 43-36 during the third quarter, the Lions responded with two free throws by Diek Olfert and a free toss by Klatt.
C. Reddig fired in a three-pointer near the end of the quarter for a 49-38 advantage.
Consecutive three-pointers by Olfert and J. Reddig increased the margin to 55-41. C. Reddig then drove in for a basket to put the score at 5741 with 5:28 remaining.
The Hawks battled back to 59-48, but C. Reddig hit another three-pointer for the Lions.
A drive by C. Reddig and two free throws by Johnslee Pierre put the Lions up 66-52 with 1:24 remaining.
Top scorers for the Lions were C. Reddig with 18 and J. Reddig with 16 points.
Also scoring were Pierre with 10, Klatt with 10, Olfert with nine and Traeholt with three.
Leading the Hawks were Levi Nelson with 11, Dane Gammar with 10 and Ryan Ramberg with 10 points.
