Wolf Point Falls To Fort Benton
The season for Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball squad came to an end with a 57-43 loss against Fort Benton at the Northern B divisional tournament in Shelby on Thursday, March 5.
The Lady Wolves trailed by a 24-20 margin, but an outstanding drive by Maci Fourstar cut the gap to two points to open the third quarter.
Fort Benton struck for the next seven points, including five points by Aspyn Bogart, to grab a 31-22 advantage.
After a three-point play by Fourstar, the Longhorns increased their lead to 36-25.
The scoring of Jorilynn Black Eagle and Ma’Kenzie Jackson helped the Wolves close the margin to 39-33 at the end of the third quarter.
Fourstar opened the fourth period with a basket. A three-pointer by Cadence Bouldin pulled the Wolves to 43-38. Fort Benton, however, then struck for 13 of the next 14 points for a 56-39 lead with under three minutes remaining.
Wolf Point’s top scorers were Jackson with 12 and Fourstar with 11 points.
Also scoring were Mattie Azure with six, Black Eagle with five, Bouldin with five, Addy Smith with two and Amya Martinez with two.
After Fort Benton took an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Wolves opened the second period with six straight points on two shots by Fourstar and a drive by Bouldin for an 18-18 deadlock.
Martinez connected on a 17-footer to put the Wolves up 20-18 with 2:48 left in the half.
