Poplar’s Girls Beat Plentywood

 

Poplar’s girls’ basketball team enjoyed a big first quarter and downed Plentywood, 63-31, for senior night on Thursday, Feb. 18.

The senior combination of Braelyn Nordwick and Cammie Martell led the Indians to an 18-3 advantage in the first quarter.

The Indians gained a 4-0 lead on a three-pointer by Martell and a free throw by senior Toni Brown.

Nordwick then accounted for the next six points on two steals and layups and then scored off a long pass from Martell.

A 15-footer by Martell and a basket off a rebound by senior Ashlyn Bull Chief increased the gap to 14-0.

After a free throw by Nordwick, Plentywood scored on an inside shot by April Mc-Cabe with 31 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Martell fired in a three-pointer to put Poplar up by an 18-2 margin. Plentywood’s Emma Nielsen hit a free throw to end the period.

Poplar accounted for 18 more points in the second quarter by a 36-12 advantage.

The Indians led 48-26 after three quarters of play.

Poplar’s boys’ basketball team dropped its regular-season finale against Plentywood by a 67-56 margin on Thursday, Feb. 19.

The visiting Wildcats led 21-15 at the end of the first quarter and 43-23 at intermission.

Poplar accounted for 19 points in the third quarter to cut the margin to 51-42.

Ryder Olson led the Indians with 15 points.

Also reaching double figures for Poplar were Wilder Bearcub with 12, Chasen Pribbernow with 11 and Chance Pribbernow with 10. Dane Moran added eight points.
