Froid/Lake Girls Defeated By Thunder
Froid/Lake’s girls’ basketball team experienced a very slow offensive start and fell to MonDak, 37-25, in District 2C tournament loser-out play Friday night.
The Thunder gained a 10-2 lead during the first quarter. Abby Lowes, a 6-2 senior, scored five of MonDak’s points. Froid/Lake’s Isabelle Nordwick hit two free throws in the quarter.
Three more baskets by Lowes put the Thunder ahead 16-4 early in the second quarter. The Red Hawks battled back to 18-9 on three points by Nordwick and a fast-break basket by Joelle Davidson.
A baseline shot by Mon-Dak’s Addie Lundby put the Thunder up 20-9 at the half.
Froid/Lake’s Avery Johnson connected from threepoint range to give the Red Hawks a good start in the third quarter.
A three-pointer by Laytyn Davidson closed the gap to eight points later in the period, but MonDak held a 28-18 advantage at the end of the quarter.
The Thunder accounted for the first seven points of the fourth period on a three-pointer by Rylie Gebhardt and free throws by Avril Carns to increase the margin to 35-18.
The Red Hawks were unable to get closer than 12 points down the stretch.
Nordwick finished with 10 points to lead the Red Hawks. Also scoring were J. Daivdson with five, L. Davidson with five, Johnson with three, Atley Jensen with one and Keira Stentoft with one.
Lowes accounted for 17 of MonDak’s points. Gebhardt and Carns added six points each.
