The Frazer pre-kindergarten program, featuring nine students, has experienced significants improvements during this school year.

The pre-k program had been offered to only 4-yearolds in past years. The program expanded to 3-year-olds this fall.

Superintendent of Schools Sarah Ruff said part of the reason to expand the program was that Frazer’s Head Start was removed.

“As our school, we felt it was our role to get the students early for them to be successful,” Ruff said.

The result has been positive for the young students and the school. Academic skills have increased at a faster rate that school officials anticipated.

Students are counting to 100, counting by 10s and learning lessons about kindness. Areas covered include socialization, grammatical play and soft skills.

“These students are already on their way to achieve success,” Ruff said.

Tiana Smoker is the program’s teacher and Roxanne Welch is the aide.

“We’re really proud of our teachers and our students in the program,” Ruff said.

Classes are held Monday through Fridays during the same times as elementary classes.

“Our community has been very happy with it,” Ruff added.
