Lady Wolves Fall To Plentywood
Wolf Point’s girls’ basketball team put up a good fight, but the Wolves came up short at home against Plentywood, 42-38, on Friday, Jan. 16.
The Wolves trailed by a 10-point margin until striking for the last seven points of the first half on four points by Maci Fourstar and a three-pointer by Jorilynn Black Eagle for a 20-17 half-time margin.
Wolf Point then opened the third quarter with a three-pointer by Black Eagle for a 20-20 deadlock.
Plentywood’s solid inside game featuring 6-0 April Mc-Cabe and 5-9 Autumn Mc-Cabe took control with the next six points. Harlee Hart hit a three-pointer to put the Wildcats up, 29-24, with 2:53 left in the period.
Wolf Point battled back with a free throw by Cadence Bouldin and a three-pointer by Sophia Ricker, but Plentywood led 30-28 at the end of the third quarter.
The scoring of Fourstar, playing her first game for Wolf Point’s varsity, led the Wolves to a 32-32 deadlock.
After Autumn McCabe accounted for the next four points, Fourstar went coastto- coast for a basket to pull Wolf Point to 36-34.
Two free tosses by Fourstar kept Wolf Point close at 39-36 with 1:37 left, but Wolf Point then missed on three-point attempts on its next few possessions.
The Wolves came as close as 39-38 on an inside basket by Adalynn Smith with 16 seconds left, but a free throw by Keira Kelm and a basket off a rebound by April Mc-Cabe put the game away for the Wildcats.
Wolf Point’s top scorers were Fourstar with 12, Black Eagle with 10 and Ricker with nine. Also scoring were Bouldin with four and Smith with two.
Leading Plentywood were April McCabe and Autumn McCabe with 15 points each.
