The Wolf Point Junior Optimists kicked off their year by visiting Faith Home residents on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

The students, from Northside and the junior high school, helped residents build turkey cups in place treats in. They also all colored turkeys on papers.

“The kids enjoy it,” Barbara Olson, advisor for the Junior Optimists, said.

This year, for the first time, junior high students were involved because of them being sixth-graders. She thanked Principal Tara Thomas for being supportive of the idea.

“Last year, those individuals said that they wanted to keep coming,” Olson said.

Olson thanked Pat Stennes for being a very reliable adult volunteer for the organization.

“We’re one of the few Junior Optimists in the area. It’s a good organization,” Olson said. “We appreciate the schools. They have been very supportive.”

Junior Optimists are sponsored by Optimist International Clubs and the Optimist International organization.

Olson has been the advisor for Wolf Point’s Junior Optimists since the group started in 2013.

Olson explained she was previously involved with the Girl Scouts, but she wished to do more activities at different times.

“I wanted to facilitate a youth group with more flexibility,” Olson explained.
