Wolf Point’s defense kept the Wolves close for most of the first half, but the Wolves lost their home football finale against Fairfield, 36-0, on Friday, Oct. 17.

The Wolves appeared to gain the first break of the game when a fumble on a punt return was recovered by Kasey Reed at the Fairfield 43. The referees, however, then ruled there was an inadvertent whistle and forced the Wolves punt again.

When the Eagles took over on their own 38, Fairfield struck on a 62-yard pass play from Brock Peace to Brodie Carper for a 6-0 lead with 8:40 left in the opening quarter.

Fairfield made another threat late in the period when Peace connected with Colter Kline on a fourth-down pass down to the Wolf Point four. The Wolves stopped Fairfield on the first two downs on strong defensive plays by Zandon Calder, Da’Shaun Jackson, Jesse Reed and Cole Holen. On third down from the four, Calder tackled Peace at the three. Sean Hamilton then sacked Peace on fourth down.

The Eagles drove into Wolf Point territory early in the second period, but Wolf Point’s Aaryn Hamilton and Roper Flaten stopped a receiver short on a fourthdown pass attempt.

Fairfield was able to add to its lead when a backwards pass by the Wolves landed in the end zone. After J. Reed recovered the ball, Fairfield made a tackle for a safety with 5:31 remaining in the half.

The Eagles added another safety later when a snap went over the quarterback’s head and a tackle was made in the end zone with 2:07 remaining in the half.

After Carper returned the free kick down to the Wolf Point 17, the Eagles reached the end zone on a pass from Peace to Reed Von Stein to put the margin at 16-0 with 1:48 left in the half.

Fairfield struck on a 32yard pass from Peace to Travis Cartwright-Gines at the end of the half. Carper added the PAT kick for a 23-0 advantage.

The Eagles added a touchdown in the third quarter on a 68-yard punt return by Carper at the 9:08 mark.

Fairfield then scored on a short pass from Peace to Cartwright-Gines to put the margin at 36-0 with 6:26 left in the third quarter.

The Wolves will end their season at Big Timber on Friday, Oct. 24.
