Shakespeare In The Park To Have New Local Coordinators
There will be new local coordinators for the Shakespeare in the Park performances in Wolf Point starting this year.
Long-time organizers Barbara Olson and Vivian Schultz announced that a couple of younger residents have stepped up to say they are willing to take over the positions. If you are interested in assisting, contact Olson at bolson8507@gmail.com.
Olson explained that Mary Madison was one of the original local coordinators of the program. Mike MacDonald, a former local teacher, then held the position for many years until moving to Fort Benton in 2019. Olson said she helped MacDonald with the project starting in 2010.
“When Mike retired and moved, Vivian Schultz and I took it over,” Olson explained.
She explained the role includes coordinating meals for the 10 to 12 performers including lunch the day of the performance, dinner after the performance and breakfast the following day.
The cost of bringing the program to Wolf Point is about $1,500.
She sees many benefits of Shakespeare in the Park holding an annual show in Wolf Point.
“It’s a unique opportunity to bring a professional performance to the people of Wolf Point for no charge,” Olson said. “It really is to provide an opportunity to the local people.”
She is grateful for the community support from local businesses and individuals. Funds received help pay for the performance of provide meals for the visiting troupe.
“Local businesses have been very generous with their support,” Olson said. “We probably need more individual supporters because we now have fewer businesses.” The performance in Wolf Point occurs in late June or early July.
