Wolves Stop Colstrip, 28-7
The Wolf Point Wolves took control in the fourth quarter to knock off Colstrip, 28-7, in non-conference football action on Friday, Sept. 5.
Behind by a 7-6 margin entering the final period, the Wolves used the running combination of Jesse Reed and Kasey Reed to drive deep into Colstrip territory.
On third down from the one, J. Reed scored with 10:06 remaining in the game. Quarterback K. Reed ran in the two-point conversion for a 14-7 lead.
After Wolf Point’s defense forced Colstrip to punt the ball, the Wolves drove 55 yards for another touchdown. On a fourth-and-two play from the 29, J. Reed broke loose for a 10-yard gain to the 19. The Warriors went on to score on a two-yard smash by J. Reed for a 20-7 advantage with 4:57 left.
The Wolves soon were in scoring range again after an interception by Tavian Bell put the ball at the Colstrip 13. The Wolves reached the end zone on a three-yard run by Sam Boysun. K. Reed battled in for the conversion to put the margin at 28-7 with 2:58 remaining.
Colstrip’s final drive ended on an interception by Jayden Dominique.
“We had a rocky start to the game with our bus breaking down and us being an hour and a half behind schedule, but the boys fought through it well and hung in their tough through the whole game until our physicality on both sides of the ball was able to help us pull away in the end. It was a great team win,” Wolf Point Coach Anthony Red Cloud said.
J. Reed finished with 185 yards on 28 rushes while K. Reed gained 126 yards on 20 carries.
Leaders in total tackles were Boysun with 15, Sean Hamilton with 14 and J. Reed with eight. Hamilton and J. Reed each had tackles for loss.
The Wolves will host Shelby on Friday, Sept. 12.
