Wolves Drop Home Volleyball Match Against Scobey


Wolf Point’s volleyball squad kept improving for most of the match in a threeset volleyball loss against non-conference opponent Scobey on Thursday, Sept. 4.
The Wolves fell by a final of 7-25, 21-25, 9-25.
After Scobey controlled the first set, the Spartans gained a 10-5 advantage in the second set.
The Wolves pulled to 10-0 when Ma’Kenzie Jackson accounted for a spike, a kill and a block. An ace by Anna Matejovsky and a spike by Adalynn Smith kept the Wolves close at 14-11.
Wolf Point still trailed 19-15 until a kill by Jackson got the Wolves going. Two serves by Matejovsky tied the score at 19-19.
After Scobey grabbed a 2320 lead, Jackson scored another kill to keep Wolf Point within reach. The Spartans, however, tallied the final two points of the set.
The third set was close early as a tip by Matejovsky closed the margin to 9-5.
Scobey ran off the next six points and went on to take an 18-7 advantage. Two aces by Chloe Handran increased the gap to 21-8. With the score at 23-9, Scobey finished off the match with an ace by McKenna Nieskens and a kill by Camrie Holum.
The Wolves then dropped a conference match in four sets in Harlem on Saturday, Sept. 5.
The Wolves lost by a final margin of 25-16, 18-25, 20-25, 23-25, in Harlem.
Ahead by only a 21-15 margin in the first set, the Wolves were able to pull away on spikes by Rodenberg and Smith.
Trailing 23-18 in the third set, the Wolves were able to battle back and get as close as 23-20 before falling short.
The fourth set wss deadlocked at 20-20 and 21-21 until the Wildcats grabbed a 23-21 lead.
Wolf Point stayed alive on a tip by Rodenberg to cut the gap to 24-24 before Harlem tallied the final point.
