Indian Days Wraps Up Celebration Season Indian Days Wraps Up Celebration Season

The final local powwow of the 2025 season took place in Poplar over the weekend, beginning with camping day on Thursday. Poplar Indian Days saw three days of grand entries, excellent weather, strong attendance and a long list of specials.

“Poplar Indian Days is definitely progressing in size,” said Stacie FourStar. “The drums, dancers and attendance was remarkable! There were over 20 specials, so there was something for everyone. The committee’s dedication and effort made the weekend memorable, ending the summer in a good way.”

Head man dancer was Inyan Growing Thunder and Farrell Top Of The Sky was head woman dancer. Fort Peck Sioux was the host drum. Officers included advisor Maureen Dione, flag bearers Genevieve Growing Thunder and Nando Silvers. Treasurers were Greg and Mary Plante. Connie Thompson was secretary. Late Abby Ogle was lodge keeper and Jalen Atchico was drum keeper.

Makenzie Crawford was senior princess, with Janaya Moran and Mila Gramling serving as first and second attendant respectively. Mesa Gramling was junior traveling princess and Willamena Weeks was junior princess, with Lillyann Martell and Brylee Eder as Weeks’ first and second attendants. Amber Stump was traveling princess. Isla Ann Wagner was mini princess, with Kenzee Archambault as mini first attendant and Greer Edith Wagner as mini second attendant.

Walk/run events were held Friday and Sunday, sponsored by the Fort Peck Tribes Diabetes Program and Spotted Bull Recovery Resource Center respectively.

“What a great celebration to end the pow-wow season,” said Lance FourStar. “We’ve been going strong all summer just about every weekend with the celebrations here.”

He was honored as master of ceremonies for the fourth annual Anthony Mazawasicuna, Jr. Memorial Men’s Traditional Special Saturday evening.

Among the many specials offered were a hand drum contest in memory of Scobey John Baker, a Grant Stafne Memorial Men’s Traditional Special, a memorial grandmother/granddaughter special for Joel Ferguson, as well as memorial specials for Tamara Red Eagle, Conrad Scott, Kayleigh Jones, Vermae Taylor and Robert Murray Jr.

Emcees were Charlie Moran and Tommy Christian. Raymond Olson was arena director. The helping committee consisted of Ernestine Ireland, Shannon Martell, Rick Dionne, Lyssa Ogle, Cammie Martell, Emmarae Martell, Wayne Two Bulls, Jen Medicine Cloud and Bob and Terry MacAnally.
